What Is Closeness?

Not absence of distance
Not sharing an instant
It is mother and infant
Could be friend and friend
But that may depend
Some may befriend
As means to end
Not lack of separation
Mutual contemplation
To tread the same blade
With separate soles
And similar souls
Could be the factor, sole
To just console
Even once
It could exist at once
With distance
But then
What is distance?

Ibrahim's Solitude

Ibrahim would mostly sit alone
With his beads
In his jeans
Like the ones I wore
And remember
The One worth remembering
When all had left the hall
His smile seemed pure
Heart strings controlling
Nothing more
Than a smile
Or words for a short while
Then back to remembrance
Excellence
And his own silence
Adding to the silence
The former weighing heavy on the latter
As the beads move
Rhythmically to the beat
Of a remembering heart
To complete the cycle
Only to start
Once more
How many
God keeps the score

Urduish

Sochein tau hum kahen,
Meethi tau tu cheez hai,

Sochein tau hum kahen,
Meethi tau tu cheez hai

Lekin hum kya karein...
Hum tau sugar ke mareez hain

History

Smiles,
Times had, and feelings haven’t left yet
What’s my best bet
Yearning for the repetition of history
Where it went,
I don’t know, how
Did I just grow up?

No, my memory can’t deceive me this way
Grown out of happiness
The memory hasn’t gone away
I would rather it cling to my thoughts

But with something to cling with,
New times,
New smiles,
And old ones that return after years
Yet without reason for emergence,
Or an opportunity to show their face

Sure there have been others,
Beautiful too,
But not those ones, the ones we lack
I want those ones back

Wired World

Bedroom floor wire full
Wired world
Wonderful
So many wires,
That now you’ve turned wireless.

Wires to your mind frame
Wires connecting trains of thought
Moulding outlooks,
Painting perceptions
Overt deceptions,
Covert in nature

Sharing quick messages
Effortless deliveries
Double click
Double dip
Fluctuating figures
And prices that pulse
To the untrained eyes
Or ears that haven’t heard
Speech of wire could seem slurred
My bedroom floor would look absurd
Wire full,
Wonderful.

Sun and Moon Letter

Blessed moon
Somehow more majestic
When almost hidden
The city sleeps
Crescent ridden

The baked golden edge
Of the morning disguised with little light
While secretly the moon mourns the dead of night
For now

Until the sun is allowed to visit
This scene
Of disguise and death
To clean the picture, to take a breath
To shed its skin on the world

Tears

Are love liquefied
Like Gibran told me sorrow was joy
They fall for love even in pain
Strange things, tears
For when falling for fear
Fall for the love of fearlessness
Sanctity
Sanctuary
God gave us tears
The misfortunate who weep no more
If to cry was to be weak
I would ask to appear lowly
Than to be among the strong
The strong that are weak
Like the sad who are happy
Like Gibran told me sorrow was joy
